Columnists: Scotland Grows Magazine is Now Also in Print!
After five wonderful years as an online publication, Scotland Grows Magazine has taken an exciting new step; it’s now ALSO available in print!
For so long, readers have enjoyed the magazine digitally, alongside its highly rated and much loved podcast. Now, there’s something extra special to hold in your hands. A beautifully printed edition. Real pages. Real ink. Real gardening stories rooted firmly in Scottish soil.

From Screen to Page
In a world that increasingly lives online, choosing to go to print feels bold and wonderfully nostalgic. There is something timeless about sitting down with a physical magazine. The texture of the paper. The gentle rustle as you turn a page. The way you can fold a corner, tuck it under your arm, or leave it open beside you in the greenhouse while you work.
After five years of building a loyal digital readership through @scotlandmagazine, this move into print feels like a natural evolution rather than a departure. The online presence remains strong. The podcast continues to grow. But now, readers who love the tactile experience of print can savour the magazine in an entirely new way.
And what a debut print issue it is.

A Bumper Spring Edition
At 84 pages, this is a true bumper issue packed full of everything spring brings to our gardens.
Spring in Scotland is unlike anywhere else. It arrives slowly, teasing us with longer days before bursting into life with snowdrops, crocuses and the first hopeful sowings in polytunnels and kitchen windowsills. This issue captures that energy perfectly.
Inside, you’ll find:
Seasonal growing advice tailored specifically to Scotland’s climate
Inspiration for small spaces and larger plots alike
Thoughtful features celebrating real gardeners across the country
Sustainable practices that work with, not against the land
Every page reflects the authenticity that has defined Scotland Grows from the beginning. This is not about glossy perfection. It’s about muddy boots, seed trays on windowsills, compost heaps steaming gently in the cold morning air.
It’s about real gardening in Scotland.

Celebrating Real Gardening in Scotland
Scotland’s growing conditions are unique. From coastal crofts to city allotments, Highland gardens to lowland backyards, the challenges and rewards are distinct.
Scotland Grows has always championed this reality. It speaks to growers who understand late frosts in May. Who know the triumph of overwintered kale. Who celebrate hardy varieties that thrive despite the heavy wind and rain.
The print edition continues that celebration. It feels grounded, honest and proudly Scottish.
This isn’t a magazine trying to replicate southern gardening trends. It’s rooted in our climate, our communities and our growing traditions. It reflects the resilience and creativity of gardeners who work with shorter seasons and ever changing skies.

A Personal Milestone
For us, this moment carries an extra layer of joy.
This marks our fourth year as columnists with Scotland Grows Magazine. Over the years, we’ve shared seasonal reflections, practical eco friendly tips and growing advice and stories from our own garden journeys. Seeing those words online has always been special.
But seeing them in print?
It’s a completely different experience, one Clayton has truly enjoyed, whether we’re looking through it together or he’s flicking through it on his own. It’s gently drawn him away from screens and back to the simple pleasure of turning real pages in the magazine. From here on out I must make sure there are photos of him in the garden featured for him to spot himself in these magazines.
There’s a quiet thrill in flipping through the pages and spotting your column nestled among so many inspiring voices. To feel the weight of it. To run your fingers across the paper. To know it will sit on coffee tables, potting benches and bedside tables across the country.
We absolutely LOVE the feel and texture of these pages.
Print has permanence. It invites you to slow down. To linger. To read an article twice. To return to a feature when planning next season’s beds.

Sustainability at the Heart
Importantly, this move to print hasn’t compromised the magazine’s environmental values.
The issue is printed using 100% vegetable based inks and readily compostable, made in a factory powered entirely by renewable energy. The paper is carbon balanced, reflecting a commitment to responsible production and sustainability.
In an age where environmental concerns are front and centre, this matters deeply. Gardening is, at its core, about nurturing the earth. It’s fitting that the magazine reflects that same ethos in how it’s made.
Choosing plant based inks reduces harmful chemicals. Renewable energy production lowers the carbon footprint. Carbon balanced paper supports reforestation and environmental projects.
It’s thoughtful. Considered. Aligned with the values of its readers.

More Than a Magazine
Scotland Grows is more than printed pages or podcast episodes. It’s a community.
Over five years, it has connected growers from Shetland to the Borders. It has shared stories of resilience, innovation and passion. It has celebrated both seasoned horticulturists and complete beginners sowing their first seeds.
The addition of a print edition strengthens that community. It creates something tangible to share something you can gift to a fellow gardener, leave in a local café, or pass along to a friend who is just starting out.
There’s a quiet power in that.
The Joy of Print in a Digital Age
We will always value the accessibility and reach of digital content. It connects us instantly. It allows us to share updates in real time. The podcast brings voices directly into your home, greenhouse or garden shed.
But print offers a different kind of connection.
It encourages stillness. A cup of tea beside you. A dog at your feet. Rain tapping on the window while you read about what’s to come in the garden.
It becomes part of the season itself.
And this Spring, Scotland Grows Magazine is inviting you to experience that.
If you love the feel of a print magazine, if you cherish turning real pages and marking recipes or planting plans with a pencil this 84-page bumper issue is for you.
We couldn’t be more thrilled to see Scotland Grows step into this new chapter. From online beginnings to podcast success and now into print, it’s a journey rooted in passion for Scottish gardening.
