We’ve been growing lavender from seed along a sunny slope in our garden, gradually establishing a fragrant and resilient bank of plants that thrive in free draining conditions. Starting from seed has taken patience, but it’s allowed us to cultivate strong, well adapted plants suited to our specific environment.
The slope provides natural drainage, which lavender prefers, helping prevent waterlogging during wetter months. As the plants mature, they stabilise the soil with their woody root systems while filling the space with colour, scent and constant pollinator activity through summer.
Growing lavender from seed and from propagation requires a gentle start careful watering while young and light pruning to encourage bushy growth. Once established, they become remarkably low maintenance. Watching them transform a bare slope into a vibrant, aromatic haven has been one of the most satisfying long term projects in our garden
