Guides to the Fruits, Herbs & Edible Flowers We Grow: Cultivation, Care & Harvesting
All About Series: Growing, Sowing, Caring For Blackberries
Written For Caledonian Horticulture
We have a guest blog series at Caledonian Horticulture talking about what we grow in our garden in Scotland, UK which if UK had zones it would be in Zone 8b.
In this series of blogs we detail all the soft fruits, fruit & nut trees, herbs, edible flowers & veggies that we are growing in our Food Forest, Mini linear Food Forest, Raised Beds and Kitchen Courtyard Garden. Through this series, you’ll discover practical tips on how to sow, grow, divide, prune and care for a variety of plants, while looking at sustainable and environmentally friendly gardening practices.

We grow redcurrants throughout our garden, where they bring both structure and seasonal interest to our Food Forest and soft fruit areas in the raised bed path. Their neat, compact growth makes them easy to fit into mixed planting schemes, whether along borders, beneath fruit trees or within dedicated berry beds.
Each summer, their jewel like clusters of translucent red berries add a striking splash of colour, hanging delicately from stems. The flavour is sharp and refreshing, making them perfect for jellies, syrups, desserts and fresh use when fully ripe.
