We have a guest blog series at Caledonian Horticulture talking about what we grow in our garden in Scotland, UK which if UK had zones it would be in Zone 8b.
In this series of blogs we detail all the soft fruits, fruit & nut trees, herbs, edible flowers & veggies that we are growing in our Food Forest, Mini linear Food Forest, Raised Beds and Kitchen Courtyard Garden. Through this series, you’ll discover practical tips on how to sow, grow, divide, prune and care for a variety of plants, while looking at sustainable and environmentally friendly gardening practices.

Dill has become one of our favourite herbs to grow because it brings so much life to the garden. Its soft, feathery foliage adds beautiful texture to the beds, while the bright yellow flower heads attract bees, hoverflies and other beneficial insects throughout Summer. We like to sow dill little and often so there’s always a fresh supply ready for the kitchen, whether it’s for salads, potato dishes or homemade dressings.
It’s a wonderfully easy herb to grow and fits perfectly into our productive garden, where every plant has more than one purpose. Not only do we harvest the leaves for cooking, but we also leave some plants to flower and produce seed, helping support wildlife and providing seed for future sowings. Dill is one of those herbs that quietly gets on with growing, rewarding us with beauty, flavour, and biodiversity all season long.
